Cybersecurity Platform
About the Project
Telefónica Tech formerly provided multiple cybersecurity tools, each accessible through separate websites, requiring distinct login credentials. For instance, a client might have availed of three different services, each hosted on its own website, with individual user accounts and role-based permissions.
Moreover, each of these services catered to a varying number of users, and each user possessed different permission levels, contingent upon their designated role within the client's organization. As an example, if a client acquired both the Cyber Threats and Vulnerability Management services, they would have to navigate between two different websites, each housing a specific set of users with diverse permission settings
Telefonica Tech was looking to consolidate all of its Cybersecurity tools & customer-facing solutions under a single, centralized platform.
I worked on this project from 2020 to 2022
Challenges
Upon completing a comprehensive evaluation of the project, we identified the main issues
Fragmented User Experience
Separate websites for each tool caused a disjointed and inconsistent user experience.
Cumbersome Access Management
Managing multiple logins and accounts across different services was inefficient and complex.
Complex Role-Based Permission Management
Separate management of role-based permissions added administrative burden.
Lack of Centralization
The absence of a unified platform led to operational inefficiencies and the need for consolidation.
Therefore, we started by restructuring the information architecture to consolidate navigation across tools, achieving a scalable and consistent structure for all services.
Goals
The main goals were:
Standardized Profiles
Defining user types, roles, and permission levels
Visual Redesign
Generating a unique and cohesive Look & Feel, since each tool had a different design
Create a Design System
Using a new Design System and a library of current components, allowing for future product scalability and growth
Improve Information display
Setting up global dashboards based on customer and internal needs
Workshops included the creation of users persona and many wireframes iteration until we came up with the final proposal
My Role
I took part in the project as a Senior Product Designer. The main phases were
Mapping Ecosystem at Wireframe Level
Developing a wireframe-level map to visualize the ecosystem of each tool.
Benchmarking and User Feedback Collection
Evaluating a navigation system to ensure it functions seamlessly across all tools.
Testing Unified Navigation System
I compare our product with competitors and gather user feedback to guide improvements.
Developing Global and Individual Dashboard
With key performance indicators (KPIs) for all services, along with specific dashboards for each service
Some of the investigation materials: Interviews and prototypes. I created a Sketch navigable prototype to conduct testing and validate our hypotheses before proceeding with full-scale development
Quartz Design System
Additionally, for this project, once the web's information architecture was resolved, my colleagues developed the new Design System, Quartz. Although they worked on the visual aspects, it was a team effort. We organized ourselves in such a way that we met twice a week.
During one of the meetings, the UI team showcased their progress and new proposals, while during the other meeting, the Product Design Team, my team, made requests for new components, and adjustments, or simply demonstrated how to use them to ensure correct interaction and usability.
Overall Outcome
The project successfully unified Telefónica Tech's cybersecurity tools into a single platform, greatly enhancing user experience.
As Senior Product Designer, I was key in mapping the ecosystem, designing a unified navigation system, and developing global and individual dashboards. My contributions in user role definition, information architecture, and the Quartz Design System were crucial to delivering a high-quality, scalable platform, despite the challenges of remote work during the pandemic.
